The past, present, and future

This was the beginning…

In August of 1936 – A man named Nelkins planted a seed near the heart of Houston, a young city only about a century old at the time. The seed was a small building @ 3419 Dowling Street. Note the date on the photograph – 76 years ago he created a space that would transform over time, from a local lawyers office, to the corner liquor store, to the nearby meat market, even the neighborhood medical supply shop (if that’s what they were really selling ;) ). Most recently, it was a cozy place friends could gather to see art shows, while hearing their favorite local band perform.

Whatever brought people to 3419 Dowling St, local business after local business kept the building alive for 76 years. So here we are today, once again 3419 Dowling Street is preparing to bring you another local spot where the community can gather and friends can find each other – The Doshi House, your local coffeehouse.
